API 5L Grade X52 PSL1 VS PSL2
Please read and compare the following differences carefully;
Chemical Composition PSL1 VS PSL2
Mechanical Properties PSL1 VS PSL2
PSL2 grade pipelines have stricter requirements than PSL1 pipelines, mainly in terms of chemical composition, mechanical properties and other inspection requirements. At the same time, PSL2 pipelines also have stricter requirements on the control range of wall thickness.
API stands for American Petroleum Institute, the largest petroleum association in the United States.
API 5L is the API standard for the production of seamless and welded pipes in oil and gas.
It is the requirement for pipeline steel production, testing and quality control, which mainly includes the following contents;
- Size: outer diameter, wall thickness and length
- Production process: welding or seamless (SMLS, ERW, SSAW, LSAW)
- Inspection and testing: chemical composition analysis, mechanical property analysis, water pressure test, non-destructive test, Charpy impact test, etc.
In API 5L X52, API refers to the implementation standard, and X52 refers to the minimum yield strength of 52,000 psi (or 52 ksi).
Yes, it’s carbon steel. API 5L is the standard for carbon steel.
API 5L X52 has better performance than API 5L Grade B
- API 5L X52: Minimum yield strength of 52,000 psi.
- API 5L Grade B: Minimum yield strength of 35,000 psi.
API 5L X52 has better performance than API 5L X42
- X42: Minimum yield strength of 42,000 psi.
- X52: Minimum yield strength of 52,000 psi.
API 5L X52 has better performance than ASTM A106
- API 5L X52: Mainly used for fluid transportation such as oil, natural gas and water
- ASTM A106: Mainly suitable for high-temperature pipelines.
API 5L X52=ISO 3183: L360=EN 10208-2 L360NE
API 5L X52 pipes have different wall thicknesses, the most common thicknesses are SCH 40, SCH 80, SCH 160. You can choose the appropriate wall thickness according to your project requirements, please read the detailed pipe size table of BalingSteel.
Normal API 5L X52 sizes range from 2 inches to 60 inches. If you have special requirements, BalingSteel can also provide you with customized sizes. If you don’t know what size pipe you want, please refer to our standard size table or feel free to contact us.
(Yield Strength x2xTx0.6)/D
- Yield Strength of X52:360MPA(52,000 PSI)
- T is the wall thickness of the thick-walled straight seam steel pipe
- D is the outer diameter of the thick-walled straight seam steel pipe
Pressure Rating=(360x2xTx0.6)/D
Yes,it’s seamless pipe and it could also be welded pipe.
